.... more than I wanted to pay for a dsm, but still worth it since it has some mods already to play with.

Mod list? Looks like maybe a boost/air fuel guage combo, maybe boost/Pyrometor?

DSM's? I think you've got them confused. I've seen several 400+hp daily driven DSM's that don't break. The ones that break are the bolt-on only penny pinchers with nitrous.

All dsms break. There isn't a 400+hp one that will last. The drivetrain can be upgraded but axles, 1/2 shafts are gonna snap if you "drive" your dsm daily.

The only thing I've personally seen go out on DSM's are:
Clutch Master Cylinder - $80 fix
Crank Walk (on 2g block only, and most hardcore DSMtuners do a swap)
Turbo (from too much boost, not cooling/warming correctly)
Head Gaskets (again too much boost)

On the whole, everything else seems to just "wear out" over time. All axles go bad, so do all 1/2shafts. It's just a question of when and how bad. Granted, I'll be the first to admit I am not the most knowledgable person on this (or any other forum), and could be wrong about the overall integrity. However, it's pretty well known that there was a huge build quality (and price) gap between the NA eclipse's and the turbo models. The NA's are, for lack of a better term, crap, while the turbo models are built to a higher standard.

I hear this from everbody. As long as you maintain the car, nothing bad will happen to it. I have seen plenty of well taken care of dsm's and nothing catasrophic ever happened to them. But, with a little neglet, yes they do break all of the time.

I am not talking about stock ass DSMs. People that get them to mod them almost NEVER do it right, they try to "penny pinch it" and just have shitty experiences with them. Intec racing in Kent built my buddy Andys 4G63, .20 over, carillo this, wiseco that blah blah blah, everything perfect, double checked, triple checked, He takes it out, it doesnt last 2 days of easy driving. Brand new motor tosses the timing belt, kills the valves, etc etc. I hear about busted ass DSMs all the time. PLUS they NEVER NEVER have reliable Transmissions. I have owned RWD Nissans, and never has Axle/Tranny/Diff troubles that werent easily remedied, DSMs snap axles all the time, and thier tranny shells are weak as hell.

Now, that said, for the BUCK, You can run some sicko times out of a well built DSM, and do it a shit load cheaper than Hondas, Chevys, Fords, Nissans, whatever else you want to put in that arena of vehicles. I'll say the 4G63 is a damn tite motor, I personally would love a Galant VR4, however ugly they are!

so how many cars...can you double their stock horsepower and not eventually break something?? Gimme a break your talking about 400HP, doubling the stock HP.

On a side note, I have a good friend of mine that runs 11.1's all day long, and commutes from everett to renton daily in it. Hasn't snapped a half shaft yet, and his trans is holding up just fine.

Obviously intec racing sucks if his "built car" lasted 2 days. That's not the cars fault that's those who put it together's fault.

so in your RWD nissans...were they doubling stock HP?

iron blocks are sooooo much nicer for making real power. No needing to re-sleeve blocks or O-ring them till crazy power per cyl.

I agree that you can make more power with an iron block. But how hard is re-sleeving a block? HOnestly. It's soo damn easy. Iron weighs more. RB series engines have been around for quite a while but by far inferior to the 2jzgte. I'm biased because I used to think my nissan needed a rb25 but then have found numerous people blowing them up under well under 500whp. And take an sr with no sleeves and make over 500whp on a stock block? what's the point of an iron block. Kolat you being a dsm guy I can see how you live and die by the iron block 4g63. That's the baddest 4 cylinder known to man. Over 1k awhp at AMS. Simply Bad ass!

I actually am in the process of building an SR for my 2poopy. Looking for big numbers at the lowest $ amount possible. I KNOW you have suggestions. 300ZX MAF, Q45 TB, Bigger Turbo/injectors/front mount etc, but what else?
