EGR Valve? I can't remember what it looked like. It might be too big. My '95 was notorious for throwing a fault code due to a clogged EGR valve.

Now that I think about it, yes it does look like the EGR valve mounted right on the front of the motor. You can try to clean it or go buy a new one. They aren't cheap. I don't know if it was just '95's but the valve would get an obsene amount of carbon build up. I had my intake cleaned and it helped for a little while. When I got rid of my Blazer to my inlaws they changed it once.

Yes, it'll will run like crap. I would try to clean it first if possible. The bad thing is you replace it and there is a good chance the new one will clog up shortly after installing it-at least that is what happened to me.

Like I said, there gets to be so much carbon deposits that it just clogs the EGR. I would assume you could buy an off the shelf product to clean out the deposits. You might look into that.

nah, the dealership sold me a egr valve gasket with a screen for the lower hole.

I've had this problem before...and before....and before that too.....

ugh...

oh well, it only costs me gaskets and time....

Yes, it seems the only way to avoid it is a good cleaning. My Blazer went for about five years after a good clean job before the EGR tripped a code.

I am pretty sure the mechanic only cleaned the intake. I am not sure exactly.
All I know is I was having re-occuring problems and then had a cleaning done. After that no problems for quite some time. Have you had the tranny go south yet?

I lost the tranny at around 90k miles. My parents lost the tranny in their '97 at around 40k and then the inlaws had to have the tranny rebuilt again once they had it for awhile.

My Project: 95 Eclipse, Another Rabbit, and whatever car I get at the auctions!
now thats a big ass egr valve...

Now if it had a port on the top, I would have said it was a CES smog canister... But it would need one or two vacuum lines on the top
