Ok, so I have a 1995 Chevy S10 Pickup, 4.3L Vortec V6, with central port injection, 4wd, and all that good jazz.

So, about a year ago, I heard a rattling from under the truck. I feared the worst and listened to my tranny pan, but luckily, it was coming from my catalytic converter.

after about 30 seconds on the lift, the guy said it was hosed and I needed a new one.

I drove it to work (30 miles) and my check engine light came on. Everything seemed to be running good, and so I drove it back to the shop.

They ran the code for me for free, and it came up as the O2 sensor. I replaced it. same code...ok...maybe wrong sensor....didn't help. took the new sensor out, put in the old on, put the new sensor in the other spot, same problem.

took it back to the shop, threw a mini-fit (not so much so they wouldn't help me, but enough that they would).

They told me the sensor was really close to throwing the code, but wasn't, and they coudln't figure out why. "it's not a problem" they say, it just won't run as efficiently as it should...

but now...I face moving to king county (possibly) and I understand they have emissions testing and wanted to see how that all went down, if someone had any ideas about what's going on with my truck, and also if anyone had any other pertinent thoughts on life

did you get an aftermarket cat?
emissions isn't a problem .. basically, if your check engine light is on, run to schucks, use an obd2 scanner, clear the code, go to emission, pass, and move on.

it's what i do with my bravada every year :D

An 02 sensor code rarely means the problem is with the sensor.

Likely you have another problem(rich/lean condition) caused by something else that is making the sensor whacky.

What exactly was the code the ECU was giving off?

OK so thats not the code....Are you OBD1 or 2? cause you are 95 you could have a split year and have obd2

Ok, do you have a plug under the dash? that would be OBD2

uhh....my answer for now is.....I know there's a plug...somewhere....

1995 Chev S10 is listed as a "pre1996" exception to all those OBD-II readers....so....I think it's OBD2....

If you replaced the O2 sensor you have to reset the ecu. The check engine light doesn't go away. Now, if they changed out the O2 sensor and reset the ecu and the check engine light came back on then there is another issue.

I don't know what the layout on the 4.3 is but the 5.7 has four O2 sensors. 2 before the cats and 2 after the cats. I am assuming the 4.3 has one before the cat and one after. I never had to change them when I had my 95 Blazer so I am not certain on this. It is common though for O2 sensors to fail and the vehicle to keep running fine.

The only problems I had with my 95 was the EGR valve and the tranny.

I don't know if this is necessarily true. My 89 1 ton Dually had the diagnostic plug under the dash.

Some vehicles did have a plug under the dash... But some were still OBD1 and not upgrade ecu`s
