Alot of it depends on the driving conditions. Snow 4x4/AWD, dry RWD cause it can be more fun.

Yeah, what he said. Except I'd do RWD in rain as well cause that's just as fun.

rwd or awd. Rwd in most cases but when there's 6" of snow outside awd for sure.

I agree with everyone in the thread. RWD for most driving situations, as it's a hoot. AWD for poor driving conditions though because RWD will send your BMW into a cement barrier on ice (doh!).

I used to drive a Subaru Impreza with all wheel drive and I'm telling you that with wet conditions you can still get that bitch power sliding though the corners. :D

Rwd for the fun of driving the car. Awd for the thrill of driving the car. and both with lots of HP!

I Drive: 2003 Mustang 3.8l 5spd

My Project: Mustang, Bandit
I have to say rear, never driven an awd car, driven plenty of 4X4's though. Got some studded snows for my Mustang this winter and haven't had a problem yet, I drive 70miles a day for work. Last winter same drive no snow tires sucked in the Mustang though.

When I took a skid course down at PIR the guy tried to convince me that there was no difference between front and rear wheel drive.

which one? What have you done to it? What do you like? What do you hate? I'm in the market for a new car and the WRX is at the top of my list. No not the STI. I'm trying to gather more info any forums you could point me to? I've been told to get the short shift right off the bat but more info is alway better.

RWD due to it being faster due to less drivetrain loss. Why do you think that there are no awd cars in high end road racing? ;)
Drag racing, rwd ftw also. You can argue that awd would launch better but it won't. A slight bit of wheelspin off the line is good, keeps the rpm's up as you feather the clutch. I launched my blown 2000 rustang gt around 5k at the track with 28x11.5's at 12lbs with only slight spin. It's all about the driver. RWD will win everytime.

My Project: '47 Crosley roundside pickup
AWD for all year round driving. RWD for the most fun...particularly with high horsepower.

Any which way I can get the most power to the ground minimizing drivetrain losses.

Totally depends on conditions/vehicle/race/rules/fun.

In my mind, it's hard to beat a lightweight car with BB power, manual trans, and posi rear. With these things, the rest can be modified/changed to satisfy most of my criteria.
