Someone mentioned it would be easier to bring in a 99 RX-7 and swap the VIN's haha...but what do you need to do to legalize and license a car you buy from Japan?

I'd love to get one of the 1999 RX-7's from Japan, is it worth it though?

Well you need to get it through customs as a show or race vehicle only. The rx-7 was never produced here in those years so it won't come up in any dmv database systems. It's just like the nissan skyline and other non-U.S. sold vehicles. Basically it would need to pass U.S. crash testing and is more expensive than it's worth. Even having a car imported for show or race use only is difficult from what i've read. Why not swap everything over into a U.S. chassis?

yeah... getting through US customs will be a pain. but if you're serious, i have a friend who works in the business of exporting cars from japan, and can talk to him... but he's busy so i dont' want to randomize him.

why an FD? i have a bunch of friends with them and they've been headaches to all of them.

my friends with skylines have had much more success, but they are in canada, and our importing regulations are much nicer :)

I wouldn't import a vehicle, total PITA. Just *try* and be happy with what's available to you.

Beans, I also know someone that imports Nissans and Mazda's from Japan. Its much easier to simply go through these guys. There are a series of weird things that need to be done. Going through customs is a pain. I"ve seen guys that have to wait 2 years for their car that sat in customs, only to have their 40,000 dollar baby be given up on and sent to the crusher. Let me know if you want the website.
