And they're going on this....

They're MOMO v-10 wheels. I am going with 18x7.5 with a 45mm offset.

Current stock wheels are 17x7.5 with a 55mm offset.

I was tempted to go up to 19x8.5 but the ride would not be too good and the rubber gets expensive.

Discount Tire has the wheels currently listed at $136 each. I couldn't pass it up.

I have no clue what the weight of these wheels are. There is very little info being they are a new design. MOMO doesn't even list any specs.

They priced me out with a set of Yokohamas. I might lean towards the Kumho Ecsta SPTs. I read some good reviews. They are sticky but don't last long.

The OEM Michelin Pilot MXV4Ms are a noisy tire. I want something that will quiet the ride a little.

Yoko`s are ok.... But what size tire do you want to run

245-40-18 ==Falken Ziex about $140 a pop
Nitto NeoGen - $160 a pop.. More street tire.. GREAT cornering!

Really it all depends on what you want to spend and size

235-45-18 === The Ecstas are a ok tire... but really stay outta this tire range... not many options AT ALL!! and tires in this size are double than a 245!!

215-45-18 === Very common tire size.. MANY options
The ecstas are about $140 in this size

^^ In the 215-45-18 size Pirelli makes a tire "P-Zero Nero"... AWESOME!!! TIRE!!!
Long lasting!, great all around tire, you can beat the shit outta them and them LOVE IT.
They have a really nice tread pattern, for water and stopping! CHECK THEM OUT!
Oh and they are only about $150-$170 a pop WELL worth it!

I have a set in 17`s, that I actually use for the strip when I take my Rabbit out

How much narrower would the 215 be to the 235? Would it fit okay on an 8 inch wide rim or will they be stretched and the diameter would be reduced?

a 40 series tire would be smaller than the stock diameter and I don't want anymore gap than I already have.

How much narrower.....hmmmm... 1 1/2 in? difference

Your going to be running 18`s, you really don't want to run anything higher than a 50 series. Ya know maybe get the z rated tires that are going to suit you. Then maybe pick yourself up a cheap spring kit 1-1 1/2.

By the looks of the picture, the stock 17`s have 55 series on them. Running a size bigger like your doing, running a 45 series.. wouldn't be THAT bad

My car has 50 series tires. The 45 series tires on the 18's would be about equal to stock.

I have already installed the Eibach pro kit springs which dropped the car a little over an inch. They have the Sportline kit out now that drops the car about an inch and a half but I'm not going through that hell again until I need to replace the dampers.

Maybe I'll inquire about the narrower tire and do some research.

Ok, 50 series... Hard to tell from the pic. But yes the 45`s on the 18`s will give you have same tread to fender well distance... really if not alittle closer, making it look alittle lower.

Shouldent be a problem at all running the 215-45-18.... Actually that would be my perfered size if I was running those rims.

Okay, I looked and there is a whole bunch more options if I go with the 245/40R18. Do you know what the difference in diameter will be from my stock setup?

Of course its alot more common size....
Didnt think you wanted that low of a profile

Difference would be about 1/4-1/2in gap more... Nothing serious

Yeah, I don't want to sacrifice the ride quality too much and coilovers just came out for this car but I am not quite ready again to tear it apart.

Going to that low of a profile really is not going to affect the ride quality to the point that you will notice a TON of difference.
In all honesty that size rim with those tires will fill in enough that you shouldn't be looking at it going... damn thats a HUGE gap between lip and tire

Just had them mounted the other day and decided to wash the pig. Only had to wait a month for the wheels but I think it was worth it.

I Drive: Depends on the day...

My Project: '47 Crosley roundside pickup
Car looks great!

Smart move opting for 18's instead of 19's....if I had it to do over again, the GTI would have 18's on it....

I`m also curious... Besides the point that tires in 18`s are SOOO much more cheaper and widely available then most 19`s
