What's your preference and why?

Turbos tend to be able to creat more horsepower and kick your head into the headrest in a more violent fasion (:D). They also cost more money to set up properly and need to be watched over like a baby to avoid any harm to the turbo or your engine. Blow-off valves sound pimp, too ;)

Superchargers are belt driven and provide instant power. While they produce less power and are more expensive to start, they cost much less to maintain and produce that power over the entire rev range. Supercharger whines are more stealth but can be ehard by anyone who knows what they're listening for.

Centrifugal superchargers = fair. Roots-type = antequated. I would personally do a turbo, with alot of research. A well set up turbo will have little to no lag, good power all across the rev range, and no need to downshift all the time to pass.

Turbo all the way. I like the option of controlled power meaning I love having an electronic boost controller to control the ability to make more or less power. I don't like how superchargers limit power output. Also it's more common on most domestics to go supercharged due to the availibility. I like doing things different. Compared to N/A both rock. It really depends on the car and what goal is trying to be attained.

Little secret: you can do the same thing with a blower.
You pulley it for a higher maximum boost and at a lower rpm... then use the boost controller and a bov to regulate it down to the desired level at any given point.

Turbos do kick much ass though.

After owning both, I'd pick the turbo over the supercharger anyday. That extra peak power and the added torque between shifts the turbo provides is amazing.

Run both a supercharger and a Turbo. Then you have the whole powerband covered.

I believe bi-turbo setups are being pushed to the wayside in favor of a supercharger /turbo setup.

Not really true....
More common is Bi-turbo...

Yes a SC+Turbo will generate a smaller amount of boost at lets say 1000rpm instead of 1600.
But once the biturbo is spooled and going the SC+turbo is already lagging since the turbo has to spool faster than the Bi

I know VW/Audi were messing with a supercharger/turbo setup. The biggest issue was cost compared to a typical twin turbo setup. A supercharger at lower rpms and then a turbo at higher rpms is a tough combination to beat.

I'm talking within in the last year or two on the Euro models. I think they were testing on the euro A3 and Golf. Talk about Scirocco, the new euro model looks pretty good but it does not seem destined for the states.
