I Drive: Depends on the day...

My Project: '47 Crosley roundside pickup
Got it when I was 7 yrs old. (that'd be 38 yrs ago) It is a 1947 Crosley roundside pickup. The fact that it is a roundside makes it quite rare (I am told) American made machine. It came with a 4 cyl OHC 750 cc motor that made about 22 hp. I've kicked around the idea of modern 4 cyl power..but always go back to my initial vision; Small block chev power.

80" wheelbase
48" skin to skin at the doors.

This is one small truck.

Those of you that are old enough to remember the toy cars called "Zingers" back in the late 60's or early 70's....that is what I envision. Big, nasty sounding V-8....tunnel ram or blower sticking out of the hood, tubbed in the back and slammed to the ground. One of the things that has held me back (besides money) is the engineering needed to fit front and rear suspension under such a small package..

Anyway...here she is....looking quite dejected.

It is one of those machines that is so ugly, it's cute... Still think it'd be badass as a mini pro-street truck...

I really lean more towards resto-mod...I don't want to cut up the outside at all..like to use all the original chrome etc.. but have this nasty soundin', geardrive camshaft havin', blower screamin', 3" exhaust blastin'...............little freakin truck!...........ya know?:D

Oh yea...and wheelie bars...gotta have wheelie bars..450 hp in a (roughly) 2000 lb chassis that is 80" long??? Gotta have some bars.

Mark 38 years is just too long. Sell it to me. It needs a twin turbo fuel injected big block. Then some wheelie bars. :D

MJN with all the street rod companies out thre you should be able to find suspension and steering. There is a company that is making shortened rack units. I can't remember the name but if I run across it I'll give you a shout out. And any good rearend shop should be able to narrow a 9 inch and set yuo up with a 4bar set-up. Good luck with what ever direction you go. It'll be cool either way.

A 9 inch and 4 link is what I have always figured I'd do out back...but even that has it's challenges due to the overall width of the truck. It is 48 inches skin to skin at the cab... back at the wheel wells, it is more like 45 or so..

The width to the start of the tubes on a 9" has got to be 12"...dunno, haven't put a tape to one lately.. leave 3" of tube on ea side and I can run 14" street slicks, with a half inch room ea side. But that gives you 15 inches, in the middle, to put the frame. (this is a pickup, remember...) regardless, the frame narrowing to 15" just feels wrong to me if you put some serious torque to it..

I figured I'd use struts on the front. Strange, or whomever.. plus a narrowed rack.

It's fun to think about...I just gotta save some dough and get started on it..
